Crochet Extra Lemon Square Blanket

I hope you enjoy my new design, Extra Lemon Square Blanket.  This blanket gets its lovely texture by crocheting the lemon peel stitch in the round from the middle. I’ve added a bit extra by substituting treble crochet stitches for the double crochet stitches on certain rounds for that little something extra.

I used most of 3 Caron Cakes because I do love the self-striping yarn, but feel free to play with color or give it a try in a solid.  This 35″ square is just right for a newborn baby, but you can also simply continue in pattern to make this blanket as big as you’d like.

When you upload your project to The Crochet Crowd Stitch Social Group or Instagram, feel free to tag me so I can see what you have crocheted.  Follow me on Instagram @ jeannestein or on Facebook.  My designs can also be saved in your Ravelry favorites by following me HERE.

I have been crocheting for over 50 years. For the life if me, I cannot get the first 2 “rows” to come out correctly. I have also seen the video and that hasn’t helped. The problem is at the row join. The other end is perfect.

I’m trying to think why that would be happening to you. Can you explain further so I can visualize more. You can email us as well with a picture so we can see. Our email is located in the contact us on the main menu. Michael

Hi Mikey – I received this email about the Extra Lemon Square but it’s not me. It must be another Terri. I’m Terry and my email is [email protected]. But thanks for reaching out. Have a wonderful day and keep up the great work!! I love all your patterns and love following you!!!

sorry. I responded back to the comment. Our system probably just went to the wrong person. Thanks for the heads up. 😀 Michael

I printed the PDF pattern and discovered that Round 3 does not match the instructions that are written out below the video. Part of the instructions between the * is missing. Just wanted to let you know

      From PDF:
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc around same post as joining hdc, *dc in
next st, sc in next st, dc in next st, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2
corner; rep from * twice more, dc in next st, sc in next st, dc
in next st, sc into beg ch-2 sp, join with hdc to beg sc. Turn.
      – 8 dc, 12 sc

      From webpage:
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc around post of hdc, *dc in
next st, sc in next st, dc in next st, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2
corner; rep from * twice more, dc in next st, sc in next st, dc
in next st, sc into beg ch-2 sp, join with hdc to beg sc. Turn.
      – 8 dc, 12 sc

Other than the word “joining” in the first line, I’m not seeing a difference?

I see what happened. My printer cut off the last line of round 3. My apologies

I think I understand this pattern, but how do you keep track of the “rounds”? I am not real good at reading the patterns.

    1. Mikey, The Crochet Crowd says:

Just grab a spare piece of paper and a pencil and just write the rnd numbers. As you go around, just check them off as being complete. That’s what I do.

Thanks! I will have to try that!

Hi Jeanne, I really like this pattern but am having trouble with the 1st two rounds. In In round 1 do I do “1 sc, ch 2” total of 3 or 4 times? In rnd 2 is the first dc done in the same sc as the hdc join at end of round 1? I usually do pretty well with written patterns but need some clarification. Thanks so much.

Hi, will you be doing a video of this? For the last two hours I have been trying to do the beginning. It’s not coming out right no matter what I do or how many times I do it. Really would like to make this for my friends baby. Thank you!

Is there a video tutorial for this blanket. Having trouble understanding first few rows.

  7. Terry says:

Hi Jeanne, I have printed this pattern several times and the photos are not printing – they come out blank. Just the pattern prints. I’m thinking its a setting when posting? I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem. I’m looking forward to making this as a gift for my sister!!
    Thanks!!

I don’t have an answer for this. I know Mikey has the same trouble, but when I print from different computers, it’s fine.

The link was ‘supposed’ to link to a blanket sweater….?

Which link is doing that, so I can fix it?

Hello I’m a newish to crochet. What does sc around hdc? Is this the same as front post half double crochet? Thank you

    1. Jeanne - The Crochet Crowd says:
      February 19, 2019 at 3:42 pm

The hdc replaces the ch 2 in the last corner. So when you start your next round, you are technically crocheting around the hdc instead of a ch-2 space.
