Crochet Into the Light Afghan + Membership Tutorial

Crochet Into the Light Blanket
Crochet Into the Light Blanket

The Crochet Into The Light Afghan by Jeanne Steinhilber was a much-needed stitching journey. Filled with light bouncing textures.

Jeanne found herself trying to cope with emotions during this unprompted crochet design. It was never intended for the book but when she showed us behind the scenes, we were gob-smacked by the intentional shadows that it gives off.

As Jeanne designed and hooked herself through this afghan, a lot of time of thinking was placed into this blanket. It’s a blanket she personally cherishes. This blanket was sent back to Jeanne to gift to a friend who helped her claw her way out of the dark and back into the light.

I have crocheted the Into the Light Afghan using five balls of Caron One Pound yarn.  I am providing a supplement to the book of my round by round color suggestions, with a checklist you can use while crocheting if you prefer to control the colors.

Hi… First I’d like to say how much I love yours and the gangs…lol… patterns. I recently saw a picture of the Into the light afghan and found it in your The Crochet Crowd book. My question is, it available also with a video tutorial.
I couldn’t find anything on the website or FB, just the pattern itself. Thank you so much

    Hello,
Is the ‘Into the light afghan pattern’ available to purchase as a pdf download.
I would love to purchase this pattern without having to buy the book as I can’t afford the cost of the book and I wouldn’t use the other patterns.
    Much appreciated
    Thanks Vicki

I’m sorry I cannot do that. We don’t sell patterns in PDF Format. It’s part of our book and we don’t have the authorization to do that. I’m sorry. Our publisher carries that permission.

I am currently working on this one in a solid color. I am using Caron One Pound in Azure. I love all the texture and it really shows up in the solid color. I think it is going to be beautiful! Thank you so much for everything you all do!

Mike, loving the grey/yellow controlled color changes you posted this week. If using alternate yarn than Caron One Pound are the amounts needed roughly the equivalent of a full skein or do some colors use noticeably less quantity for the complete pattern for planning purposes?

I don’t know what the breakdown per yard is each colour. I will defer to Jeanne to see if she can help you here.

Darn, I was really hoping no one would ask me that question. I don’t have the exact answer. The weight of my finished blanket is about 4 pounds. I started this one over a year ago and set it aside for a time. I wasn’t even sure if I was going to finish it. While it sat in the WIP basket, I used some of the yarn on other projects, so even if I weigh them at this point, I’m afraid I would not be accurate. In fact, I have to buy another ball as I completely used up one on another project. I’m truly sorry I cannot give you a better answer, but I don’t want to make guesses either.

No worries, a little extra stash yarn is never a bad idea! Appreciate you putting such a gorgeous pattern in the book and posting the remix on colors here.

Weight is #4. You may be able to find it on Yarnspirations.com. I’m unsure where you live, being Canda or USA. So I cannot be specific on a retailer location.

I just finished my “Into the light” afghan. I love this pattern, I made it red, white and 2 shades of green. Can’t wait to find the Caron Cakes Dusted Cream yarn so I can make it again !
