Modern Granny Winter Poncho

This Modern Granny Winter Poncho pattern, could really be called, “Modern Granny Meets Glacier Cowl”.  I decided for my third poncho in the series to add a ribbed turtleneck to it in the same stitch that I used when crocheting the Glacier Cowl.  If you are someone who doesn’t like anything on your neck, you can simply leave off the collar and still have a beautiful winter poncho.

I used 3 Caron Cakes in the Blueberry Shortcake colorway because I love the ease of the self-striping yarn.  You can always choose any worsted weight yarn in either a solid color or stripe it as you desire.  You can also adjust the size by simply adding more rounds to reach your desired length.

I Would like to use Wool Ease thick and quick super bulky yarn, M hook for the Modern Granny winter Poncho How many stitches do you recommend starting off with… do I just reduce the amount of stitches between center points?

I’m really not sure. I haven’t crocheted with that yarn and thickness to alter this particular pattern. I don’t have an answer for you. You can reduce between the centre points as you suggested to make the next line smaller to comp for the thickness of yarn. But I don’t know how many stitches that would be.

I’m doing this now and I believe row 4 needs ch 3 at the end of the first repeat before you get to the ch 1 sp because you do a ch 3 after working in the sp. and you start with the repeat right after, which starts with a ch 3? Also at the end, before the sl st to finish the row?

    1. Yvonne says:

I ripped it all out and started from the 96 ch. Followed the next step to the letter, and end up with about 5 extra sc before the join at the end of the row. Something isn’t quite right and not sure what it is.

Love this pattern and just wondering if you have any numbers to follow for a child size (ie. is it multiple of 2 for foundation chain etc.)
Many thanks for your fab work!

I believe the multiple is 6 for this.

I’m making one for a 10 year old as we speak. She’s very tall but I took 6 chain off the neck line and just did the rows until it was the right length! I hope that helps

Hi! This is a beautiful pattern. I was wondering how many beginning stitches to add to make the neck bigger? I am using a lighter weight yarn. Thank you for all your lovely patterns. They are so easy to follow.
    Cheers,
    Alana Blakely

Alana – looks like to me that the neck needs to be in sets of four. Two front post dc, two back post dc around. – LJ
