This Teeny Weeny Baby Cap is the smallest size of the preemie versions. It is only 3 – 4 lbs in size. These take just minutes to make. These are a great starter project for crocheters while satisfying the need for charity at the same time.

This pattern is strictly half double crochets. It has a steady growth rate and the growth ends on round 3 as it’s really tiny. The pattern picture is showcasing the largest size in this pattern, so you should expect your hat to be much smaller.

In the tutorial I have provided, you will be able to follow this hat step by step. Be conscious of the tail ends to weave them in. I show a technique in the tutorial on how to do that. You can use those skills for all other crochet projects.

Stitch it Forward

Yarnspirations has released their latest Lookbook called Caron, Stitched with Love. The book of free patterns for both knitters and crocheters has one central theme, charity. It focuses on simple projects and some that require a bit of knowledge of crochet. Personally, I love how the Lookbook allows new crocheters to learn new skills but also for the ones who have some skills to go a step further. Not only is this book charity oriented, but it also a great starting point for crocheters and knitters to do something more than practise with stitches. It will allow them to learn, grow and contribute to their own community with the projects they create.

The project above is from this Lookbook. This article is one specific pattern and I have a tutorial that matches it for those who need an extra helping hand with the instructions and skills needed to complete the project.

Hi. Do you happen to have the finished hat size for the 3-4lb hat? I know it says to fit a head circumference of 8.5 inches but what is the actual hat circumference and height? Thanks so much!

I don’t know that off the top of my head. I have given my samples away to charity at this moment and don’t have the sizes handy. I’m sorry.
