Learn to Crochet this Women’s Peaked Hat

Crochet this hat called the Women’s Peaked Hat. It’s a vintage design with a flair to the brim using a button to fold up the brim on the sides.

This pattern has a unique and fun easy stitch and will challenge you as well. It’s a great project for something stylish for yourself or even something for charity giving.

The suggested yarn is  Patons Canadiana.

This hat can end up being too small if your tension is tight. I have a solution for you though.

Increasing the Size – NOT IN PATTERN

Some crocheters are experiencing a sizing issue. If your hat is appearing too small by the time you finish round 8. I am going to give you two additional rounds to follow to increase the diameter of the hat by 2″.

My advice will put 4 DC’s between each spoke instead of just 3. It will make a significant difference.

ROUND 9 – Ch 2, *1 dcfp around next dcfp. 1 DC into the next 3 dc, 1 dcfp, 2 dc into next dc and then 1 dc into the next 2. Repeat from * AROUND

Round 10 – Ch 2, *1 dcfp around next dcfp. 2 DC into the next dc, 1 dc into the next 2 dc, 1 dcfp, 1 dc into next 4 dc. Repeat from * AROUND

Once you get this done…resume the pattern as normal starting at Round 9 as per the pattern.

I read every comment but overwhelmed. I know it’s no excuse. I cannot keep up to YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and this. It’s best you probably not use our site. I just cannot keep up.

I have the same question as Chickee … with 4 dc between the post stitches there is now no central stitch. If I do my dc between the 2nd and 3rd dc it appears that this will just pull the hat in again to the smaller size which is too tight for my head. I have already unraveled the 8 inches of the main pattern to put the two extra rows in, but I’m now back at Row 10 and it’s more confusing than it was before. This is also possibly going to throw the brim shaping out. Perhaps a bigger hook would be the way to go? 12 hours work for nought. Any suggestions before I start unraveling again?

i increased by adding one extra dc in first round of pattern. you end up with 72 st. it keeps the pattern but has an extra “spoke’. i increased the brim to 54 st.

Hi there! I can’t find the pattern for this hat. Is it somewhere in this post and I’m missing it? When I went to your patterns drop down and then to hats, it just links back to this. I see the video tutorials, but no written pattern except the additional two rows you added. Help, please?

Help! I have the same prob using the increased size instructions. How do you manage the even number of 4 stitches between posts when continuing with Row 10? As a beginner, I’m stumped.

Hello, to increase the hat size using your 2 extra rows, seems to make the hat to big, can I use just the first added rnd instead of the 2 rnds you gave to increase? I’m using a J hook as my daughter’s head is larger than average.. Thank you for your help!

I really like this pattern. Is there a written pattern too? I am hard of hearing and sometimes I do better with using both the written and video versions. Thanks….Sharon

    Mikey,

Nice job on the hat in the tutorial but you aren’t going into the center double crochet when you get to three double crochets between the ridges. It is easy to confuse.

Try doing a row of double crochets alternating two colors. It will quickly become obvious where each dc begins and ends or where the “top” of each dc is and what you have been treating as the top. Hope you find this helpful.

    Love the website!

I am confused. I finished row 14 (8in) The hat does fit but i have 76 sc stitches into the first row of the brim. Did i do something wrong how do i get back to 64 sc?

  14. Kalah Byman says:
    January 4, 2015 at 1:44 am

I asked the same question earlier but can’t find the blog anymore to see if it was answered. I had 80 stitches after putting in those 2 rows but am now back to 64 after resuming the pattern. The hat is very small.

    1. Kathleen Pierce says:

I have a large head and I found the original pattern without the extra rows was perfect for me. I think you should try again with a larger hook.

  15. Chickee says:

So if I do your 2 row increase I now have 4 dc in between post stitches… So where in row 10 do I put that DC that is supposed to be in the center stitch?
