Learn the Extended Moss Stitch
The extended moss stitch is really easy as it plays with only double crochet and chains within the main body of the stitch.
What makes this stitch amazing in its look is how the extended part of the double crochet bulges outward. I can see this stitch being amazing for afghans, smaller projects and more.

To Make Different Sizes
Multiple of 2 sts + 2.
Remember the + number at the end of the sentence means that you are to add chains at the very end to maintain the pattern as written.

Hi Mikey! I have a question. for the third row you count 2 for your turning chain then you “say” that youre going to do a HDC but you do a DC instead. Can you please clarify? I was looking for written instructions but couldn’t find them anywhere. Thank you in advance.
I have been looking for a pattern I would follow what he does in the video where it’s extended it’s likely a dc.

I have limited hearing so need patterns written which I prefer. Even if a caption was on the video it’d
be good. Videos are hard to see as stitches aren’ t clear. I do many blankets for charity with a group.

Love the look of this stitch. At 3:46 you say you are going to hdc and it looks like you did a dc. Is that correct?
I love this! I am going to make some wash clothes 🙂 To answer the question of HOW TO FINISH the project without the gaps in the last row. *This is what I did*
I figured to start and finish each row he has you do a hdc *half double*, so I did a hdc on next row down then an extended moss stitch in the gap (2 rows down) *repeat to the end* and finish the row with the last 2 hdc like every other row. It’s even and looks perfect 🙂

Correction: I would sc in current row instead of ch 1, and extended sc 2 rows below instead of extended dc. That will close the holes and give a sc row at the end like you have in the beginning.
I too learn best from a written pattern. What I do is open Notebook and watch the video, stopping it every couple of stitches and typing it in Notebook. It takes a bit longer, but works great.
For those asking about the last row to eliminate the holes; the logical thing is to do the last row in the same manner, except use sc instead of dc. Hope that helps.
Mikey, I love your videos, especially since you include directions for left-handers (even though I’m not one). However….could you also include written directions? I can print them out and have them handy while I’m practicing and I just can’t do that with my computer. Otherwise, great site, great patterns, great techniques and great ideas.

Hi Mikey, I agree with matco64 about written directions of all your video tutorials. I do much better with the written than trying to follow a video. I have to rewind it too many times to understand it!! LOL
A friend of mine recently learned how to crochet and tells me how much she’s learned from The Crochet Crowd, so I decided to check you all out. I’ve been crocheting for over 20 years, but there is always something new to learn. You have a lot of great stuff on here, but I prefer written instructions/descriptions on how to do a stitch. For one, I personally remember better from reading rather than watching/listening to a video (though videos are helpful if I feel confused about the written instructions), and second, if I then decide to make something from one of these stitch tutorials I’m not always in a place/position to watch a video if I need a reminder on what to do whereas I could print out or download written instructions and read them. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are others that are the same as myself. I mean this as simply a suggestion, and just to write out a description of the stitch, or link to a page that has written instructions, in addition to your videos. Thanks for all you do to “hook” others into crochet!

I love the look of this stitch. Thank you for the tutorial I just have one question. How do you finish the last row of the scarf so it doesn’t have the holes in it? Could you replace the doubke crochets with single crochets?
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe to finish off you chain one and then single crochet all the way across the last time? Pretty stitch.

I would dc in the already existing stitch (instead of the ch 1 that creates the space) and work an extended dc in the other
on the last row, instead of a ch 1 to skip the stitch, you do a sc in the row below so you don’t wind up with spaces.
