Crazy Eight Shawl

The Crazy Eight Shawl has wonderful motifs that are done to appear as a crazy eight. Compromised of 7 crazy eight motives attached together to form the shawl and then with a border added on once they are attached.

The original yarn, Bernat Mosaic, is discontinued. You will need to find yarn that is approx 1050 yards. If you still have Bernat Mosaic in your collection, you only need 6 balls to make it. The colour you see in the photograph is called Fantasy.

Materials Needed

• Size H or 5 mm Crochet Hook
• 5 Balls of Bernat Mosaic or 1050 Yards of Yarn.
• Tapestry Needle
• The diagrams are provided below to give you a better visualization to make the pattern easier to follow.

Written Instructions

• Note: Ch 3 at beg of row counts as dc throughout.
• Motif (make 7). See the chart below.

Ch 80, leaving a long tail approx 12″ [30.5 cm] for sewing.

1. (WS). 7 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 8 dc). 1 dc in each of next 13 ch. Place marker on last st. *(Yoh and draw up a loop in next ch. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – dc2tog made. 1 dc in each of next 6 ch. Rep from * 6 times more. Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of last 5 ch. Turn. 76 sts.
2. Ch 3. 1 dc in next dc. (Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 5 sts) 7 times. Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 15 sts. 2 dc in each of next 8 dc. Turn.
3. Ch 3. 2 dc in next dc. (1 dc in next dc. 2 dc in next dc) 7 times. 1 dc in each of next 13 dc. (Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 4 sts) 7 times. Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 3 sts. Turn.
4. Ch 3. (Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 3 sts) 7 times. Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 16 sts. (2 dc in next st. 1 dc in each of next 2 sts) 7 times. 2 dc in last st. Turn.
5. Ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. (2 dc in next st. 1 dc in each of next 3 sts) 7 times. 2 dc in next sc. 1 dc in each of next 12 dc. (Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 2 dc) 8 times. Turn.
6. Ch 3. (Dc2tog. 1 dc in next st) 7 times. Dc2tog. 1 dc in each of next 15 sts. (2 dc in next st. 1 dc in each of next 4 sts) 7 times. 2 dc in next st. 1 dc in last st. Turn.
7. Ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. (2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in each of next 5 sts) 7 times. 2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in each of next 14 sts. (Dc2tog) 8 times. Turn.
8. Ch 3 (does not count as dc). (Yoh and draw up a loop in next st. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 8 times. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – dc8tog made. 1 dc in each of next 12 sts. Place marker on last dc. 1 dc in each of next 5 dc. (2 dc in next st. 1 dc in each of next 6 sts) 7 times. 2 dc in next st. 1 dc in last dc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail approx 12″ [30.5 cm] for sewing.

Joining

• Bring last st and marked st tog. Using long yarn tail, sew from marker to center. A rep for the opposite side with first st
  and marker.
• Join Motifs tog as shown in the diagram.

Edging

1. With RS facing, join yarn with sl st in any dc. Ch 4 (counts as tr). 2 tr in same sp as last sl st. 3 tr in each st around.  Join with sl st to top of ch 4. Fasten off.
